Jasper Food Mart owner Chirag Thakkar and clerk Sabrina Moriarty, standing under the Georgia Lottery prize check, want to find the winner of a Fantasy 5 ticket sold in early January.
The lucky winner of a $125,000 Fantasy 5 ticket sold in Jasper apparently doesn’t know how lucky they are, because nearly two weeks after the January 3rd drawing the prize has gone unclaimed.
“We were so excited when we got the news it was sold here,” said Chirag Thakkar, owner of Jasper Food Mart on Highway 53 directly beside Bojangles. “But no one ever came to claim it.”
Thakkar said he and his employees have been proactive about finding the winner.
“We would ask everyone, locals who come in and buy tickets regularly,” he said. “I don’t know if it was someone passing through town who bought it, or maybe someone lost the ticket.”
Clerk Sabrina Moriarty said customers she asked wished it had been them.
“Yeah, they’d just say, I wish, but I’ve already checked all my tickets,” she said.
Thakkar has had a few $10,000 scratch-off tickets sold at his store in the three year’s he’s owned it, but this is the largest winning ticket sold there – and the only one that’s ever gone unclaimed.
Even if the ticket was claimed somewhere else, the store would be alerted.
The winning Fantasy 5 numbers were 2, 11, 13, 28, 29. Fantasy 5 winners have 180 days from the draw date to claim prizes.
